The article examines the influence of the American factor on contemporary political landscape of Canada. In conducting the research, the author focused on two issues: first, the federal elections in Canada in , and, second, the international initiatives of the of Justin Trudeau Liberal government in power since The study has shown that the American themes are present or occupy an important place on the Canadian electoral agenda.
Trudeau failed to fulfill many election promises in this area. This happened primarily because of the fundamental differences in the foreign policy concepts of D. Trump and J. In addition, the rigidity, inflexibility and aggressiveness of D. Trump compelled the Trudeau government to concentrate all the resources, efforts and time on the Canadian-American vector rather than allocate them to different spheres in international relations.
